    - Heirloom peonies are often referred to as peonies that have been grown and/or passed down in families for generations. These are some of the + year old varieties we grow at Brooks Gardens.     Herbaceous peonies are very hardy perennials (USDA zones ) bloom in early to mid-spring, depending on the variety. In the fall stems die back to the ground.
