"One Young Man" does not exactly ignore the ugly reality of war, but it is meant, clearly, as a rah-rah book, intended to rally the home front.

Despite this, it does give an insight into the everyday life of a British soldier in the early days of the war. It is a short little book (I read it during an extended lunch break) that is well worth /5().

This book reminded me of how much fun The Young Ones were. I remember how excited I would get every Sunday night because the Young Ones were coming on MTV. This book captures the true essence of the show and the genius of Rik, Neil and Vivian (I always felt Mike was an unnecessary character)/5(36).

“The One Man is the book of Andrew Gross's career—unbearably suspenseful at times, heartbreaking and inspiring, surprising to the last page. It's magnificent."— Joseph Finder “A truly amazing piece of work—powerful, emotional, gripping—all the things a great book should be and so much more.”—Lorenzo Carcaterra/5(24).

Homo unius libri ("(a) man of one book") is a Latin phrase attributed to Thomas Aquinas in a literary tradition going back to at least the 17th century, bishop Jeremy Taylor (–) being the earliest known writer in English to have done so.

Saint Thomas Aquinas is reputed to have employed the phrase "hominem unius libri timeo" (meaning "I fear the man of a single book"). The One Man by Andrew Gross is one of my favorite books so far this year. I love stories set in the WWII era of history and then the author added twists and turns that have you constantly on the edge of your seat.

I didnt want to put this book down. I will warn you though, the last scene set in the past had me crying buckets/5. eBook links; Wikipedia – J. Andrew Gross, who is known for his engrossing and gripping thrillers, creates one of intrigue, daring and hope in THE ONE MAN.

The novel is set in during the final days of World War II in Poland and the United States. Alfred Mendl is Jewish. He is an electromagnetic physicist who has been sent to Auschwitz.

So, young man, your character is largely the result of your choices. This book is written to help you make those choices that will build strong, solid character.

Day by day and year by year, your character can be strengthened as you yield to God's training. The only reason for Mark’s unique appellation, labeling as “young man” the one whom the other Gospel-writers called “angel,” must have been to link the two incidents with “young man” in them, in Mark 14 respectively.

But this “young man”. Simi you’re one in a million I wrote this song for you 6 years ago. As a young man that was just trying to figure life out, you had just come into my life and my world started changing magically.

Freud and Einstein both hailed it as a masterpiece, and Kurt Vonnegut claimed that everything you need to know in life is smashed down into this book. It still is.

The Known World, by Edward P. A Man of One Book: By John Wesley (–) From Preface to Sermons. TO candid, reasonable men, I am not afraid to lay open what have been the inmost thoughts of my heart. I have thought, I am a creature of a day, passing through life as an arrow through the air.

I am a spirit come from God, and returning to God: just hovering over the. The book itself has a manic chanting rhythm as Guy keeps up the charade of being years younger than he is. Just when “Our Young Man” seems about to drown in its own superficiality — a heady.

Mark There followed him a certain young man — The ancients, or at least many of them, supposed, that the young man here mentioned by Mark was one of the apostles; though Grotius wonders how they could entertain such an idea, and apprehends it was some youth who lodged in a country-house, near the garden, who ran out in a hurry to see what was the matter.

Music critic Rob Sheffield’s memoir Talking to Girls About Duran Duran appears at first to be founded on a fallacy—that Duran Duran are still huge, and that their ongoing fame speaks to something ineffable about well, not so much the female psyche, but at least something that males want to know about the female psyche.

(And which, one hastens to add. 'Love each other or perish,' he warned, quoting Auden. Albom learned well the teaching that 'death ends a life, not a relationship.' The love between the old man and the younger one is manifest.
